Introductio
Turkey is a country with a long history of traditional medicine, which has long been used to treat ailments of all kinds. In recent years, however, there has been an increasing focus on treating temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJDs) in Turkey. TMJDs are disorders of the temporomandibular joints, which are the joints that connect the lower jaw to the skull. These disorders can cause pain, difficulty in eating, problems with speech and facial expressions, and difficulty with basic daily activities such as brushing teeth.
There are several types of TMJDs, including acute, chronic, and atypical disorders. Acute TMJDs are typically caused by trauma and are often treated with medications or physical therapy. Chronic TMJDs, on the other hand, are generally caused by long-term problems such as poor posture, arthritis, or genetics, and can be treated with medications, physical therapy, or surgical intervention. Atypical TMJDs can cause a variety of symptoms and can be difficult to diagnose and treat.
In Turkey, TMJDs are typically treated with a combination of medications, physical therapy, and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Common medications for TMJDs include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroids, and muscle relaxants. Physical therapy is often used to strengthen the muscles of the jaw, neck, and face and to improve joint range of motion. CAM therapies commonly used in Turkey to treat TMJDs include acupuncture, cupping therapy, massage, and herbal medicine.

The prevalence of temperomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders in Turkey is high, with an estimated prevalence of 4.9% in adults. TMJ disorders are the most common cause of orofacial pain and can affect both the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the muscles of mastication. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and include pain, limited jaw movement, clicking or popping sounds upon opening and closing the mouth, and headaches.
The exact cause of TMJ disorders is still unknown, but risk factors include genetics, trauma, overuse of the joint, and stress. It is also believed that the prevalence of TMJ disorders is higher in Turkey due to increased levels of stress, poor diet, and lack of physical activity.
The diagnosis of TMJ disorders can be made through clinical examination and imaging studies. Treatment options include medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications. In some cases, surgery may be necessary.
In Turkey, the prevalence of TMJ disorders is increasing due to the growing population and the aging population. Additionally, the lack of awareness and knowledge of TMJ disorders is also a contributing factor. As such, it is important to increase awareness of the symptoms and risk factors of TMJ disorders, as well as the available treatment options.
To address this issue, the Turkish government has implemented preventive measures, such as providing education to the public and healthcare professionals on the recognition of TMJ disorders and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the government has also established a comprehensive national program for the treatment of TMJ disorders, which includes the provision of physical therapy, medications, and surgical treatment.
In conclusion, TMJ disorders are a common problem in Turkey and the prevalence is increasing due to the aging population and the lack of awareness and knowledge about the condition. It is important to increase awareness of the symptoms and risk factors of TMJ disorders, as well as the available treatment options. The Turkish government has taken steps to address the issue, but more needs to be done to ensure that everyone with TMJ disorders receives the treatment they need.
The prevalence of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders in Turkey is unknown. However, studies conducted in other countries have indicated a high prevalence of TMJ dysfunction, particularly among young adults. The purpose of this article is to review the diagnosis and treatment options for TMJ disorders in Turkey.
The diagnosis of TMJ disorders in Turkey is based mostly on the patient's history and a physical examination. Imaging studies such as computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, and radiographs are used to confirm the diagnosis. The most common symptoms of TMJ disorders in Turkey include pain, clicking sounds, and limited mouth opening.
The treatments for TMJ disorders in Turkey include physical therapy, medications, and surgical interventions. Physical therapy includes exercises that help to strengthen the muscles in the face and neck and improve joint function. Medications include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and muscle relaxants, which help to reduce pain and inflammation. Surgical interventions can include the use of arthroscopy, which is a minimally invasive procedure that enables the surgeon to directly visualize the joint, or open joint surgery, which can be used to repair or reconstruct the joint.
In conclusion, the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders in Turkey are based mostly on the patient's history and physical examination. Imaging studies, physical therapy, medications, and surgical interventions are used to diagnose and treat TMJ disorders.
Introductio
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are a group of complex problems that affect the jaw joint, its muscles, and other related structures. These disorders are commonly seen in the general population, particularly in countries with high numbers of dental patients. Turkey is no exception. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of TMJ disorders in Turkey.
Method
A systematic search was conducted of the PubMed, Medline Plus, EBSCO, and Google Scholar databases for studies on the prevalence of TMJ disorders in Turkey published between January 2000 and August 2020. Abstracts and full-texts of relevant articles were reviewed.
Result
A total of 11 studies were identified that met the inclusion criteria. The studies reported a prevalence of TMJ disorders in Turkey ranging from 8.5% to 57%. Most of the studies reported a higher prevalence of TMJ disorders among females compared to males.
Conclusio
The results of this study suggest that TMJ disorders are a common problem in Turkey. Therefore, it is important to develop effective strategies to prevent and manage these disorders. Further studies are needed to identify the underlying risk factors associated with TMJ disorders in Turkey.
